It's been a bit of a tiring weekend and my moods have been up and down, especially considering that the secretary at work has been sick so I've had to do all of my tasks plus a few of hers that HAVE to be done on a daily basis. I was really afraid I was going to say something bad at work, but I bit my tongue. BARELY, mind you.

So when I get in this state of absolute up and down, hardly eating blahblah, there's one thing that will ALWAYS cure me.

Today's baking adventure is brought to you by the fact that I have leftover root beer oil from the root beer everclear adventure.

These cookies (sorry no pictures this time) are quite interesting. They taste like sugar cookies and THEN BAM the tangy taste of a root beer! Here's the recipe

2/3 C butter softened
3/4 C sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1 egg
1 Tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla
several drops of root beer oil
2 C flour

Preheat oven to 375.
Mix the butter and sugar together. (The electric beater works best, seriously)
Add baking powder, egg, vanilla, milk and root beer oil. I used about 5-7 drops and the root beer flavor isn't that strong. I'll have to keep experimenting.
Beat in as much flour as you can then stir the remaining to get a nice stiff dough. If not stiff enough, put in fridge.
FLOUR EVERYWHERE!! (if you're me, haha) Roll out the dough in batches, use cookie cutters.
Bake in oven for 7-8 minutes, possibly longer depending on how thick you make your cookies.
Lastly, EAT!

To make dinosaur cookies, just leave out the root beer oil. This is my absolute favorite sugar cookie dough to eat and work with.

Nothing makes me happier or distracts me more than baking. Unfortunately, there's not enough time in the day to bake every day, but I will probably bake more this week, experiment some more.

That sounds delicious! Where does one get root beer oil? In the grocery store? I've never seen that!

I found root beer oil at a chocolate/candy supply store. You might be able to find root beer extract in the grocery store. We couldn't find root beer extract (which is less concentrated than the oil so you need more of it) so we bought the oil.

I used to hate cooking/baking, until I had to cook for myself and found out that it was actually pretty funny to try to do new things :) (even though sometimes the result of my experiment is barely edible ;)
This looks good! I had never heard of root beer oil before! I'm not sure I can find that in France :'(

Oh I LOVE to bake!! I'm always baking a million things. I baked tons of cookies to share when I went to SMTown and there's probably more pictures floating around on the LJ somewhere.

I had to go to a specialty candy store to get root beer oil. If you want some easy to experiment with recipes, let me know and I have some good ones that are easy to tweak.

OMG ALL THOSE COOKIES! And in cute dino shapes and with different colors! Looks lovely!!!
How do you get the different colors for the icing?
I cook salty dishes but rarely ever try to bake anything. I just eat what my very talented little sister bakes :) I really want to try baking colorful stuff though :)

I just used food coloring. The icing is the most basic recipe ever! It's powdered sugar, vanilla extract, milk and food coloring.

My mom bought the dinosaur cookie cutters when I was little and gave them to me when she realized how much I loved baking. I have ninja shapes, the pictures above has Halloween shapes, ampelmann shapes, and a bunch of other random ones.
